It’s officially been 6 weeks since I jumped in with my health & fitness program, The FASTer Way, so I’m here to share my update on how it all went, some of my favorite parts of the program, and what comes next for me.

In case you missed it, I shared the details on the 6 week program in this post but I’ll do a quick recap here as I review how it’s all gone for me!

The FASTer Way is a science-backed approach to nutrition and fitness designed to help you reach your fat loss and strength goals in a simplified way that’s guided by a coach and takes the guesswork out for the client (me – this is what I needed!!)

Here’s a recap / how it went in my experience during the 6 week program.

NUTRITION

The nutrition includes:

  • intermittent fasting (even just 12 hours! I usually do a 16 hour fasting window)
  • carb cycling (2 days of low carb, the other 5 are regular / higher carb)
  • hitting daily protein goals by tracking your food intake
  • drinking enough water daily
  • whole food nutrition (you can modify as needed to your dietary needs/preferences but the optional meal plans & recipes are all naturally gluten and dairy free)

I personally have not followed the meal plans or recipes in the app but do like seeing them there for ideas especially on the days where carbs are different so I can get an idea of how to hit that # of carbs / protein.

I am not new to macro tracking, but I love how they eased us in by starting off with tracking protein only at first so it didn’t feel so overwhelming.

The macro tracking portion of the FASTer Way app is great, easy to use. Going forward I’ll switch back to MyFitnessPal because I love being able to save recurring meals I eat / recipes I make at home and I already have a lot saved in there that I wouldn’t want to transfer over. The FASTer Way tracker is perfect for the 6 weeks but for the long haul I like the options available within the MFP one.

Hitting higher carbs was the most difficult part for me! I feel a lot better with it now and feel sooo good and so much more balanced / energized day to day with more carbs back in my diet. The two lower carb days in the week are a great switch up and I feel like the balance has been incredible for fat loss but also my digestion and gut health. Loving the carb cycling!

Hitting my protein has become second nature now. I EASILY get 100-150g of protein daily without having to think about it or track super closely. So freeing and man it feels good to be FUELED by lots of protein. Leaves me with less cravings for junk and just feeling so much stronger in my workouts and clearer mentally.

WORKOUTS

The workouts are brand new every day in the app and can be done in a gym or at home and include modifications for all movements to make them easier on your body or lower impact. I’ve been doing the “home” workouts in our garage gym and am able to do just about everything they recommend with dumbbells and a bench. They always offer modifications using bands as well if you don’t have dumbbells, and every movement has options for how it can be done depending on your body / fitness level.

To be honest, the workouts have been my FAVORITE part of the program and are the biggest reason why I’ll be continuing with the monthly VIP program moving forward now that the 6 weeks are up.

I love that I can get in the gym, hit play in the app (I cast to a TV out there but you can use your phone or do your workouts indoors too!), and get moving. I don’t have to plan anything out – it’s all ready to go for me and I love the predictability (HIIT / Tabata days, Full Body day, Upper / Lower Body days). It makes me not want to miss because I know I’ll be missing that workout and I don’t want to!

The workouts are different every day which makes it FUN. I feel *cool* learning so many new movements, I feel challenged every time, and I’m always sore in the best way. I feel like I can see so much more muscle tone and I know I have gotten so much stronger with the progressive overload in weights. Each week I am consistently reaching for heavier weights and I’m constantly leveling up as things feel easier. It’s SO MOTIVATING and is keeping me more consistent than ever.

SUMMARY

In the 6 weeks, I have lost 5 pounds but my goal wasn’t even to lose weight. I wanted to build strength and didn’t really care about the # on the scale at this point. I just want to look and feel better and better and honestly… I’m working towards my mom & grandma body! I want to be strong and fit and moving with my family for the longhaul. I don’t want to feel sluggish and tired and have random pain and immobility.

Mission accomplished – I am feeling SO MUCH stronger, more motivated and consistent than ever, and despite eating more than ever and picking up heavier weights than ever… I’m at a new low weight.

I’ll be continuing on with the “VIP program” where I’ll pay a monthly subscription similar to having a gym membership so that I’ll maintain access to the app for the workouts!
